How to Be a Hypnotist - Selecting a Hypnosis Trainer or School

Selecting a Hypnosis Training School #3 – Is There Time for Supervised Practice Sessions During the Hypnosis Training Course?

  • Look at me right here“Look at me right here.”
  • Press on my hand. Close your eyes“Press on my hand. Close your eyes.”
  • Sleep!“Sleep!”

When you are studying how to hypnotize someone for the first time, it is important to know how much time is allotted to practice the hypnosis techniques you learned in the classroom. Why? When you are first entering the profession, you are bound to make mistakes, because you haven't developed the confidence in performing inductions or formulating suggestions. Whatever the reason may be, supervised practice sessions can help you iron out those mistakes while providing you with the hands-on training you need.

Supervised practice sessions not only allow you to practice what you’ve learned in class but also provide you with the opportunity to receive guidance and feedback from your hypnosis trainer. You will not only quickly correct your mistakes, but, you will also gain confidence when your instructor lets you know when you are doing techniques correctly. Spending ample time doing both and experiencing hypnosis will help you become more confident in learning how to do hypnosis and ultimately make you a more successful hypnosis professional when you complete the course.

How much time is sufficient? At the Banyan Hypnosis Center, it is our experience that students become more confident in their hypnosis techniques when they have 18 to 20 hours of supervised practice sessions over the 10-day course. We schedule supervised practice sessions an hour before class and an hour after class 9 out of the 10 days, which helps students retain what they just learned in class.

Selecting a Hypnosis Training School – How Large are the Hypnosis Training Classes?

small class size for hypnosis training course Typical Class Size for NGH Approved Certification Hypnosis Training Course

Does size really matter? When it comes to choosing the right hypnosis training school, you definitely need to look at class size. Small class size (less than 16 students) has many advantages when you are pursuing your career as a professional hypnotist or hypnotherapist.
  1. Receive much more individual attention – If you are fairly new to the hypnosis profession, you will most likely have a lot of questions on your mind about the profession, what techniques to use, and so forth. A small class size can readily adapt to your needs and interests, so that you can find the answers you are looking for to help with your professional development to becoming a certified hypnotist.
  2. Leave no one behind – With hypnosis training classes, the course load and practice sessions can be intensive and overwhelming. At times, students have a tendency to fall through the cracks. With a small class size, the hypnosis trainer will be able to identify which students are having difficulties understanding the materials and make adjustments accordingly before moving on to the next subject.
  3. Engage in quality class discussions – A small hypnosis training class creates an intimate environment where you are not just a number, but, an individual with opinions and viewpoints that add tremendous value to classroom discussions.
  4. Have better student/teacher relations – In a small hypnosis training class, a hypnosis trainer has the opportunity to learn all his or her students’ names and special hypnosis interests and can cover those topics a bit in the class, i.e. sports, pain management, when they are not otherwise covered. By developing strong professional relationships, you will receive ongoing support even after you complete your training.

In our experience, the best class size for our NGH Certification Course is between 12 to 18 students in order to create an intimate and engaging learning environment for students to become successful certified hypnotists.
