Good trainers/consultants earn in excess of $100,000 annually and do it on a consistent basis over many years. How do they do it?

BY CREATING A UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION (USP)

David Ogilvy, the powerhouse behind Ogilvy & Mather ran his advertising empire by adhering to the axiom, “Never run an ad unless you have a Unique Selling Proposition”.

Your USP is:

  • A brief dynamic statement that you give to define the problem that your services can solve for a customer and that your competition does not offer. (example: Stress Management)

  • Your most essential tool for focusing other people’s perspectives on your services the way you want them to be seen.

Your USP must:

  • Show your clients that they will receive an overt benefit by dealing with you;

  • Give your clients a reason to believe that what you say is correct;

  • Inspire your clients to believe that there is a dramatic difference in what you offer over the competition. (Mention competitors)

Rules of Thumb:

  • Your business is being branded one way or another.

  • Incorporate your USP into everything you do.

  • Keep your USP fresh and timely to reflect changes in the market.

  • A consultant’s practice is typically as weak or as strong as the marketing efforts he or she puts into it.

How Much Time Do You Give To Developing Your USP?

Over the years I have found a very high percentage of my students and colleagues spend very little time on developing their USP and thus struggle with their marketing efforts. They cannot seem to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Obviously they need help in doing this.

As a Corporate Trainer and Consultant for many years at companies such a Motorola, Estee Lauder, Mutual Benefit Life Insurance, Sanofi just to name a few, I have been able to design a six-step program to help them identify their USP, I would like to share this program with you.

Goal Image Focusing Technique (GIFT)

The GIFT program is a process in Imagination that enables participants and companies to enhance their imaginative abilities in order to experience their goals in a “vivid” way and to persevere until they reach their desired outcome.

The GIFT Technique: Six Steps to Achieving Goals

  1. Buying IN – The first step is a process in which participants build their own best image of themselves and experience themselves in a new role.

  2. Discovering One’s Personal Motivation – Through careful self-assessment participants begin to discover their real motivation – what it is they want to gain through overcoming the problem.

  3. Creating a Personal or Company Goal Image – What kind of person or company does one want to become?

  4. Programming the Goal Image of the Individual or Company – Participants and Companies learn through training, to feel and ‘be’ the image it has created for itself. They learn to experience themselves in a number of different situations in which they act out a new role.

  5. Temptation – Participants and Companies experience what it is like to be their goal image during a variety of situations they will face in the future.

  6. Achieving Goals – Participants and Companies learn to experience the emotions and success when goals are achieved.

The GIFT program can be used by all employees in any corporate setting to set goals and persist until they are reached. Trainers and Consultants can help a corporation to crystallize their vision and mission statements and to help management stay focused.

This article suggests that qualified individuals who have training in Hypnosis, learn to adapt those skills toward the lucrative Corporative market place. The rewards, especially financially, far exceed other professions and one’s personal growth moves quickly. Think about it!
