Childbirth is one of the most painful experiences a human being endures even with the use of drugs to block out some of the pain. But long ago, woman gave birth without drugs, at home with the help of a midwife.
Women are increasingly interested in giving birth using alternative methods to drugs. Alternative birthing methods are usually associated with decreasing pain, reducing the need for anesthesia and also shortening delivery times.
Hypnobirthing is one such method that teaches young moms on how to focus and deal with the pain of labor.
Birth today has now become a medical procedure rather than a normal biological process. Developed countries where birthing has stayed primarily in the hands of midwives at homes, outcomes – for both mom and baby – are better, with lower infant and maternal mortality and morbidity.
